Cy Twombly - The Rose (III), 2008

Cy Twombly is one of my favourite artists, so it was a treat to see this piece at the recent Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The impact of the painting is immediate, and as soon as I saw the characteristic writing style scrawled on the right panel, I knew it was his work. Being more familiar with his more common 'earthy' palette, the vibrant colours appeared all the more stunning as if feeding from the energy of the brushwork. Amazing stuff
