I discovered Cheburashka two years ago in a Tokyo toy shop. The Russian stop-frame animated series from 1969 is wonderful and has recently been adopted, along with the likes of Moomin, by the Japanese for the love of all things folky and retro
Cheburashka arere? a new Japanese animated series of 26 3-minute episodes was premiered on October 7, 2009, with a movie to follow next year. Expect more Cheburashka toys, plushes and nick-nacks to follow

Cheburashka is a darling! the series are so well made and they have this hidden criticism of life in the ussr.

ReplyDeleteHey man. I never knew Cheburashka was all cool now. About 4 or 5 years ago my buddy Will and I went to see Eels playing at the Royal Albert Hall, instead of a support band they showed Cheburashka on a big screen, weird. And wonderful.
