Boris Vasilevich Zvorykin (1872 - 1942)
This illustration is taken from the wonderful 'The Firebird and Other Russian Fairy Tales'. The book comprises of four tales - The Firebird, Maria Morevna, Vassilissa the Fair and The Snow Maiden, each sumptuously illustrated with Zvorykin's gouache paintings. His pattern work and use of colour is really inspiring, with rich decoration akin to Russian folk art and icon painting
