Super Spacefortress Macross vs EastEnders
I've been curious about the games that have frequented the arcade cab in EastEnders' Bridge Street cafe. There have been football games, shooters and more... The PCBs have certainly been rotated by some diligent crew member, but up until now I haven't been able to clearly identify what they were
Last night's EastEnders episode finally revealed the current set-up, none other than Banpresto's first Macross game from 1992. The coin-op incarnations will never match the sheer brilliance of Zamuse's Super Famicom release (Choujikuu Yousai Macross - Scrambled Valkyrie), but it's nice seeing an obscure Japanese shooter during UK's prime-time BBC schedule

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you discovered that! I watched Eastenders (well not watched, I hate it, but I glanced and saw) on 27th May 2010 and saw this game and wondered what it was.
ReplyDelete1 google later and I find this! Many thanks!
Ever since posting, I've never seen the coin-op so prominently in shot! It's as if Banpresto are now sponsoring EastEnders (O_o)
ReplyDeletethe other day there was a guy 'pretending' to play this cab, he was pushing the buttons etc, but the whole time the game was actually in attract mode hahaha.
ReplyDeleteYeah I saw that too - it cracked me up ^_^
